Cancer Vision 2025: The Science Pathway to Effective Treatments and Services
Newton’s Apple has created a neutral forum for stakeholders in cancer research, treatment, and policy to debate and propose actions to optimise cancer research, treatments and services in 2025.
As a part of the project, a half-day stakeholder consultation event was held in January 2007 in association with Cancer Research UK, the King’s Fund, Pfizer, and UCB. The conference focused on issues in cancer research and services, as well as on policy challenges in cancer care. Participants included young scientists and senior researchers, research donors, industry, charities, policy-makers, politicians and cancer patients. The goal of the conference was to identify tangible and clear actions which need to be taken, as well as practical timescales for these actions.
Some of the conclusions have been compiled into a report - CANCER VISION 2025 – A SCIENCE PATHWAY TO EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS AND SERVICES – and disseminated to all relevant stakeholders.
CANCER REFORM STRATEGY HAS TO EMBRACE THE SCIENCE PATHWAY SAYS THINK TANK press release
The aim of the report is to explore the science underpinning cancer treatments and services, and to propose a Science Pathway to ensure delivery of the best possible treatments and services to all cancer patients in 2025. In the Foreword, Dr Monica Darnbrough - who chaired the Working Group advising this project - sets out a vision of cancer treatments and services in 2025. The report proposes innovative recommendations for concrete actions by government, regulators, funding bodies, industry and other stakeholders in order to build on the progress in combating cancer achieved in recent years. Overall, the report concludes that science has to be an integral element of the new Cancer Reform Strategy.
